The Chinese garden has a very long history and famous around the world. Among them, the Garden of Suzhou is the most attractive and intact. On December 1st, Zhao Bin, a guest artist went to GCA and gave us a speech of the traditional gardens.
The Garden of Suzhou is just like a sample of all other gardens in China. Most of them are affected by it. So, if you want to appreciate Chinese Gardens, you can’t miss the Garden of Suzhou.
Each garden of Suzhou has a same point in differences, it seems that designers and artisans all seek to be: The sight of eyes can always be attracted by the perfect drawing in any site of the garden. In order to get the goal, they dainty about the layout the gloriettes, they dainty about the coordination of the rockeries and ponds, they dainty about the set of the flowers, grass and trees,they dainty about the arrangement of the close shots and the establishing shots. Anyway, they only want to make tourists get the aesthetic feeling, “like in the picture”.
Most of Chinse traditional constuctions are symmetry, the left part is just as same as the right part. However, the Garden of Suzhou doesn’t like this. Why? I think the symmetric constructions are the paintings of pattern, but the gardens are the piantings of art. Art depends on the interest of nature, not the symmetry.
I enjoy the rockeries and ponds best. The pile of the rockeries is not only a technology but also an art. Sometimes, it is terrace, sometimes, it cooperates bamboos and trees. There are also some exquisite stones in the ponds. Usually, goldfish and different colours of carps swim freely in the ponds. In summer and autumn, lotus flowers and candocks dispark there.Tourists can watch the view of the fishes swim across the flowers. It is another outlook in the painting.
The Chinese gardens, especially the Gardens of Suzhou, are precious treasuries of our folk. It is our responsibility to protect them well!
